INFORMATION FOR TOURISTS

Tourist Sites in Myanmar
for the International Tourists and Foreign Visitors

The following areas and sites have been opened to International Tourist and Foreign Visitors to travel. Travelling to some of the areas and sites will require prior permission from the authorities concerned as specified below.

(A) Kachin State

(1)Both Package Tours and Foreign Independent Travellers (FIT) are allowed to travel to Myitkyina either by plane or train.

(2) Both Package Tours and Foreign Independent Travellers (FIT) are allowed to Hopin, Mogaung and Indawgyi by train.Prior permission is required to travel to these regions by car.The journey can be proceeded only after the permission has been granted by the Ministry.

(3) Both Package Tours and Foreign Independent Travellers are allowed to Jinghkrang, Myitsone, Waingmaw and Washaung in Myitkyina.

(4) Only Package Tours are allowed to Putao by plane. For those F.I.T who wish to travel to Putao, they must contact an authorized Travels and Tours Company and travel only as a Package Tour.

(5) Package Tours traveling to following area in Putao, viz , Manse (NS-9494)*, Mu Daung (NT-0409), Noi Nan (NT-0994) Machambaw (NT-0974), Ho Pa (NT-0282), Ko Pa (NS-9385) are only allowed to authorized Travels and Tours Companies supervised and guided by either a Staff Officer or an Assistant Manager of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (* Map reference)

(6) Detailed itinerary to Putao areae is to be submitted to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism in advance.

(7) Package Tours and F.I.T are allowed to Bamaw by plane or by ship. Prior permission is required if traveling by car.

(B)Northern Shan State

Package Tours and F.I.T are allowed to Lashio through the inland route either by plane,train or car. Further to Muse, prior permission is required.

(C) Southern Shan State

Package Tours and F.I.T are allowed to Taunggyi, Inlay, Pindaya, Kalaw, Yatsauk and Kakku through the inland route either by plane, train or car.

(D) Eastern Shan State

Package Tours and F.I.T are allowed to Kyaing Tong, Tachileik through the inland route by plane.

(E) Kaya State

Package Tours to Loikaw by plane and package tours to Loikaw via Kalaw, Pinlaung, Phekhone route by car are to be submitted to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism in advance. Tours to outside areas of the town are not allowed.

(F) Rakhine State

(1) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed through the inland route to Sittway, Mrauk-U, Ngapali, Thandwe, Gwa and Taungkoke either by plane, car or ship.

(2) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed by car to Kantharyar via Ngathaing Kyaung Gwa Road; and to Ngapali via Pyay Taungkoke Road.

(3) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed through inland route to Paletwa, Chin State via Ahm, Minbya and Kyauktaw either by cars or boats. Prior permission is required.

(4) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Pyay- Taungkoke. Padan-Ahm, Laymyochaung area, Mrauk-U Township, Chin villages in Pauktaw Township either by car or boats, only after the permission has been granted by the Ministry.

(G) Kayin State

Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Tharmin Nya, Pa-an, Hlaingbwe and Kawkareik by boat or by car. Prior permission is required.

(H) Mon State

Package tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Kyaikhtiyo, Kyaik Hto, Thaton, Kyaikmaraw, Mawlamyaing, Balukyun, Thanbyuzayat and Kyaikkami either by train by car or by boat.

(I) Tanintharyi Division

(1) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Myeik, Dawei, Maungmagan and Kawthaung either by plane and by ship.

(2) Tours to Salone Island, Mipya Island, Seik Lu Island, Thahtay Island, Sagaing Island and MinHla Island in Kawthaung District are allowed to Entry Permit.

(3) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Kwanthee Island, Sular Nghe Island,Pawel Island, La Ngan Island, Lampi Island, Magyonegalet Island, Myauk Tawin Island, Kyuan Phila ( Great Swinton ), Nyaung Wee Island ( Pulau Boda ), Taung Tawwin Island, Island No-115, Hlaing Gu Island, Narnatthee Island, Shwe Kyaun Lay Island, Myauk Ne Island, Thu Ye Kaung Island, Ayauk Kyuan Ne, Myinn Hlewar Island in Myeik, Dawei, Kawthaung regions by boat with prior permission.

(J) Yangon Division, Mandalay Division, Bago Division, Magway Division and Ayeyarwaddy Division

Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed either by ship or car within Yangon Division, Mandalay Division, Bago Division, Magway Division and Ayeyarwaddy Division.

(K) Sagaing Division

(1) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed by car to Alaungdaw Kathapa, Po Win Taung, Monywa, Twin Taung, Butalin, Kyauk ka, Yinmar Pin and Yeshantwin areas.

(2) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Khamti either by air or by ship. Tours to the outside areas of Khamti are not allowed.

(3) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Homalin by ship. Tours to the outside areas of Homalin are not allowed.

(4) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Kale by plane. Tours are permissible only within the four mile range of the Town.

(5) Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Kalaywa, Phaung Pyin, Lahe, Layshi, Htamanthi and Min Kein with prior permission.

(L) Chin State

Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to Kanpetlet, Natma Taung (Mt. Victoria), Mindat, Aye Camp, Ramsi Camp, 8-miles Camp, Mt. Kaneddy, Phalum and Hakha with prior permission. Tours to the rest areas are not allowed.

(M) Cruise along the River

Package Tours and F.I.Ts are allowed to cruise along the Ayeyarwaddy River for Mandalay -Bamaw - Mandalay/ Mandalay - Bagan/ Nyaung U - Mandalay/ Yangon - Mandalay/ Yangon/ Delta areas and Mawlamyaing -Pa-an- Mawlamyaing.

(N) Restricted Areas

(1) Tours to Mogoke are not allowed.
(2) Tours to Hpakant are notallowed.
(3) International tourists are not allowed to Pyinmana, Leiwei, Tatkon.

(O)

International Tourists and Foreigners coming through the Border checkpoints with Entry Permit are allowed to travel to the areas mentioned below.

(A) Kachin State

(1) Visitors coming in with Entry Permit through Lizar checkpoint are allowed to proceed on to Myitkyina as package tours arranged by authorized Travels & Tours Companies with prior permission.
(2) Visitors coming in with Entry Permit through Kan Pai Te checkpoint are allowed to proceed on to Myitkyina as package tours with prior permission.
(3) Package Tours coming in with Entry Permit through Lwe je checkpoint are allowed on to Bamaw.

(B) Northern Shan State

Visitors from China with Border pass are allowed to enter through Muse, Namkhan, Kyu Koke and Kum Lone checkpoint as package tours arranged by the authorized Travels & Tours Companies and then proceed to Lashio by car.

(C) Eastern Shan State

(1) Visitors from Thailand with Entry Permit through Tachileik are allowed to proceed on to Kyaing Tong, Tachileik and return back the same way.

(2) Visitors entering through Wun Pone with Border Pass are allowed to travel as far as Tachileik.

(3) Visitor from Lao with Entry Permit through Wan Pon are allowed to proceed on to Tachileik and return back the same way.

(P) Visitors with visas passing through border checkpoint.

(1) Package Tours with visas passing (in/out) through border checkpoint are allowed with prior permission.

(2) Package Tours to Special areas/ restricted areas (For example- Loi Lin, Nam San, Pin Lon and Hukong Valley) are allowed with prior permission.

(3) Special flight, Charter flight and Cruise Ship Tours arranged by the authorized Travels & Tours are allowed with prior permission.
